I dreamed of you last night. I dreamed that I said goodbye. I dreamed that I wept for you.
And this morning I wake to find you really are gone.
April 2007 Archives
I am the patron saint of all things unexpectedly shitty.
When I returned home from a day of school and work on Thursday, the house was dark. Like, not-right-dark.
I open the front door and flip the switch, resulting in an equal amount of darkness. Scanning the room, I notice that no electrical device seems to be operating.
Stepping back outside, I can plainly see that my neighbors seem to have functioning lights.
Sparing you the nightmare in between, here is the nutshell you may throw on the floor: my electric had been turned off.
Why?
I still don't know.
You see, I have never missed a payment.
However, the gist of Duke Energy's story is this: I had been on budget billing (where the bill is the same each month, settling up at the end of the year). I had been removed from budget billing sometime in March without my knowledge or consent. Therefore the settlement became due without my knowledge. When I paid the March and April bills, there was an amount that remained unpaid by me, BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW I OWED IT. I received a letter in the mail from them that informed I was late on a payment, which I was in April. But I had paid the bill the day before the letter was sent, so I thought nothing of it.
There was no disconnection notice. Not. One.
feelings and facts are aligned.
